Using Coptyzin

Coptyzin is a copper bactericide for the control of Pseudomonas Syringae pv Actinidiae (Psa) in Kiwifruit. (Limited claim only)*

Active Ingredient: 95 g/L copper (Cu), chelated by tetraethylene pentamine in the form of a soluble concentrate.

Directions for Use

Product to be applied only by a Growsafe approved handler. Use in foliar applications when there is a risk of Psa in Kiwifruit ( Limited claim only ).
This claim is currently supported by limited efficacy and plant data safety and is therefore not fully proven at this stage. Monitoring of vines for signs of phytotoxicity is recommended. Any adverse event from the use of this product must be notified to Micro-Nutrients NZ Ltd, Tel. 027 2820199.

Dosage

General Warning: Excessive use of copper can result in phytotoxic damage to vegetative growth and fruit. Do not exceed dosage rates. Shake container before use. 

For established vines

Bud break to fruit set: 1.5 L per Canopy Ha, 4 - 5 applications, Fruit set to harvest, 1 L per Canopy Ha, no more than 4 applications. Post harvest, 1.5 L per canopy Ha. Repeat at leaf fall if there is a gap of 10 or more days between events. Dormant period, 1 – 3 applications at 1.5 L per Canopy Ha. Give priority to coverage during and immediately after winter pruning.

Ensure at least 10 days between applications, best if applied before a wet weather event, or immediately thereafter (but do not apply when canopy is wet).

Recommended water rate per Ha: 600L – 1000L.

Withholding period: Do not apply later than 7 days before harvest.

For glasshouse or nursery plants and recently grafted vines

From bud break to end of growing season: 8 – 10 mls per 10 L water, no more than 9 applications and ensure at least 10 days between applications.
Monitor plants for any sign of phytotoxicity and defer further applications should this occur. Target wet weather events (but do not apply when plants are wet). 


Further Application Instructions:

Cover entire canopy of each plant or vine but avoid spraying to wet or to run off, especially when spraying young plants or vines with a hand held, or back pack sprayer. Check sprayer set up and calibration. Use fine droplet nozzles. Avoid the use of stickers/adjuvants.

Avoid applying in high temperatures ( > 24ºC ) and bright sunshine, or when the canopy is wet.

Treat preferably during early morning or late evening. After fruit set allow an interval of at least 1 month following the use of an alternative copper product before applying COPTYZIN.

Compatible with most pesticides, avoid mixing with oil based products. Conduct a compatibility test before application.


Shelf Life

When stored appropriately (in a cool dry place, 5°C - 30°C), this product should show no significant degradation for 5 years from date of manufacture.
When using this product beyond this shelf life, contact the registrant for further information.


Safety Information

Disposal

Product: it is expected that all product in the container will be used in accordance with label instructions. Disposal of container: the empty container should be triple rinsed, rinsate added to the spray tank and the container rendered unusable by crushing or puncturing. Bury in a suitable landfill, or dispose of at a local body recycling container collection depot.

Corrosive

Danger – this product is corrosive and may cause skin burns and eye damage.

Toxicity

May be harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin.

May cause sensitisation from prolonged skin contact.

May cause reproductive/development damage from repeated oral exposure. Toxic – presumed to cause target organ damage from repeated oral exposure at high doses.

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Use protective clothing including face mask, goggles, gloves and overalls when using Coptyzin. Do not drink, eat or smoke during handling. Remove protective clothing, wash hands and face before meals and after work.

Ecotoxicity

Very toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms and harmful to terrestrial vertebrates. Avoid contamination to any water supply with product or empty containers.

First Aid

In case of contact with eyes, wash out immediately with running water for several minutes.

In case of skin contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water.

If swallowed, seek medical assistance. Call National Poisons Centre 0800 POISON (0800 764 766) or a doctor immediately.

Warranty

The liability of the Registrant is limited to delivery of the product in its original container in conformity with the guaranteed analysis, as indicated on this label.

The Registrant is not responsible for inappropriate or inaccurate use of the product nor for damage caused by weather conditions, soil characteristics or special sensitivity of crops and varieties. In no case shall the Registrant be liable for consequential, special or indirect damages resulting from the use or handling of this product. All such risks shall be assumed by the buyer.
